“Our vision for a better Kirklees” A Social Value Guide

Worcestershire County Council procurement toolkit

This toolkit was developed in 2013 by Worcestershire County Council to advise on best practices for procurement in regards to generating social value. The toolkit outlines The Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012 and gives examples of instances where social benefits have been created though the commissioning process. The procurement process is outlined and information given on how to best monitor and measure social value generation.

Solstice Nurseries maintenance services

Background Info

Grampian Housing Association awarded a 3 year open spaces maintenance contract worth £100,000 to Solstice Nurseries in 2006. Solstice Nurseries is a social enterprise providing training and employment in horticulture to people with mental health difficulties. The decision to award the contract to Solstice Nurseries was made in recognition of social value generation and value for money in providing the service.

Sustainable Business Partnership was employed by a Waste Management Company (WMC) to review the social impact of its work in London Borough. This review of social value used Social Impact Mapping and a Social Return on Investment (SROI) analysis.
